Being aware of organizations which can help me become a singer-songwriter is very important. These organization can offer a financial support, they can offer advice and a lot more. I mention some of the important organizations below. I am already a member of some of them.
PRS for Music is a society of songwriters, composers and music publishers. It is important to be a member of PRS because it collects royalties from original songs and I can register my songs with them.
The Musicians' Union (MU) is an organisation which represents over 30,000 musicians working in all sectors of the British music business. Being member brings a lot benefits.
PPL licenses recorded music played in public and distributes the fees as royalties to its members.
The SMIA exists to champion and strengthen Scotland's music industry, promoting its vibrancy and influence at home and overseas. They are currently starting a new website and they will offer a student membership.
The Music Producers Guild (MPG) (UK) promotes and represents all individuals in the music production and recording professions.
